CHRISTUS Health Plan Releases Statement Regarding COVID-19

March 12, 2020

Dear Valued Health Plan Provider:

CHRISTUS Health Plan values the importance of collaboration and coordinated action for the identification and care of members exhibiting signs of COVID-19, which is why we continue to follow CDC guidelines and work in partnership with local, state and federal government authorities. We are committed to responding to the needs of members in the safest manner necessary.

In accordance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, CHRISTUS Health Plan Generations (Medicare Advantage), CHRISTUS Health Plan Exchange (plans for Individuals and Families), and CHRISTUS Health US Family Health Plan will cover COVID-19 testing in full for members. In addition, members who require a refill of their covered maintenance medication prior to the expiration of the normal refill waiting period will be able to receive their medications from the pharmacy.

For health care professionals, the CDC provided guidance to avoid additional risk from patients who may have been exposed to coronavirus. After identifying a person at risk or patient under investigation based on symptoms and exposure history, those suspected of illness should wear a facemask and be evaluated in a private room with a closed door or placed in an airborne infection isolation room if available. The CDC also encourages providers and patients to utilize telemedicine if and when available.
