Prevention and Care

Prevention

The Best Solution

Do you have a chronic medical condition such as high blood pressure or diabetes?

Seeing your doctor regularly helps keep things in check. Skipping appointments won't really save money, it just delays the expense and risks your health. Avoiding check-ups and follow-ups might lead to costly emergency room visits. Your health is an important investment, so spend wisely by getting the right care.

Urgent Care

If Your Primary Care Provider's Office is Closed and There is an Unexpected Medical Problem

If your primary care provider's office is closed, and you need medical treatment, go to an urgent care facility. First, ask yourself if your condition is life-threatening. If the answer is no, your next step is to visit an urgent care center near you. With extended and weekend hours, you can avoid the trouble and expense of a trip to the emergency room.

  • Cough, Cold, Fever, Flu
  • Sprains, Strains

Emergency Room or 911

In an Emergency

As access to health care expands, it is easy to get overwhelmed by the options available for care for an illness, injury or other medical condition. The emergency department is designed to treat life-threatening emergencies, other major injuries, and serious illnesses. It is not a place to seek treatment for routine medical care and simple problems like sore throats, the flu, or ear infections; see your primary care physician or other resource for those problems. Going to the emergency department with routine problems will cost more and take longer than seeing an appropriate level of care.

  • Trauma, Accidents
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Heart attack, Chest pain
  • Uncontrollable bleeding
  • Sudden change in vision
  • Severe difficulty breathing
  • Seizure, Sudden dizziness, Paralysis
  • Suicidal feelings
