HIPAA & Cultural Competency

Effective health communication is as important to health care as clinical skill. To improve individual health and build healthy communities, providers need to recognize and address the unique cultures, languages and health literacy of diverse consumers and communities. Our cultural competency program is geared toward:

  • Improving health care access and utilization
  • Enhancing the quality of services within culturally diverse and underserved communities
  • Promoting cultural and linguistic competence as essential approaches in the elimination of health disparities

HIPAA

All patient identifiable information must meet the confidentiality regulations as specified by the

U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HRSA) website.

CHRISTUS Health Plan network providers must treat all information that is obtained through the performance of health services as confidential information to the extent that confidential treatment is provided under state and federal laws, rules and regulations. This includes, but is not limited to, information relating to applicants or recipients of HHSC Programs.
