Fall 2018 Medicare Newsletter

Dear friends,

Welcome to the Fall 2018 issue of “Health Matters.” As we head into the cooler autumn months, we here at CHRISTUS Health Plan Generations and Generations Plus would like to pass along some important health information to help you make the most of this time of year.

A few of the topics you’ll find covered in this issue are information about Grandparents Day, when to get your flu shot, information on back to school preparation, upcoming health awareness months and, as always, a recipe for a delicious and healthy meal to share with those you love, or to keep all to yourself.

Nothing means more to us than knowing we’ve helped make our members’ lives better. That’s why we’re so thankful for the privilege of being able to give you the highest-quality health care!

In good health,

Nancy Horstmann
Chief Executive Officer

Grandparents Day - Sept. 9

Grandparents Day is a day of celebration involving the whole family, a day to connect the generations of a family. It’s as much a day to honor grandparents as it is a day for grandparents themselves to confirm their loving legacy to the generations that follow them.

There are three purposes for Grandparents Day:

1. To honor grandparents.
2. To give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children.
3. To help children become aware of the strength, information and guidance older people can offer.

Grandparents Day is an important official marker of intergenerational relationships. Increasingly, schools and community groups are organizing Grandparents Day (or Intergenerational Day) events at any time during the year as a way to bring families together and build community. Children have an opportunity to show their appreciation and love towards their grandparents (and other special older adult friends), and grandparents feel valued as their role is validated.
